Petra is a city of stone located in Jordan. The city is said to have been habited since 7000 BCE. Often called the rose city due to the sandstone color it is cut by this city was first habited by the Nabataeans. Petra was then used as a regional trading hub. Petra came into the control of the Roman Empire in the first century BCE and would begin it's decline. During the Islamic era the city was abandoned in exception to some nomads.
